Tournament host Tiger Woods carded a 3-under-par 69 including birdies on his final two holes for a one-stroke win over Zach Johnson (71) at the Chevron World Challenge.

Woods’ victory comes in his 27th start worldwide since his last win at the 2009 Australian Masters.  He entered the final round on Sunday one stroke behind Johnson and still trailed by one shot with two holes to play.

Woods holed a 15-footer for birdie at the par three 17th to draw level and then hit a 9-iron from 158 yards that landed on the ridge behind the 18th hole and rolled down to six feet. Like the Woods of old, he made the putt.

“I’ve been in contention twice this year, which is not very often,” said Woods. “So that’s my third time with a chance to win it. I pulled it off this time.”

Four of Woods’ five wins at the Chevron World Challenge have been in come-from-behind fashion, with 2007 the exception.

A year ago, Woods held a four-stroke lead over Graeme McDowell after the second and third rounds of the Chevron World Challenge before finishing runner-up.
