Shah Alam, Selangor, July 23: Finland’s Joonas Granberg claimed his first Asian Tour victory in the RM1.2 million Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters, edging Thai teenager Panuphol Pittayarat by one shot.
Granberg closed with a 66 at Kota Permai Golf & Country Club to finish on 15-under-par 273.
Australia’s Adam Groom needed a birdie at the par five closing hole to win the tiitle outright but but wound up with a double bogey after a careless four-putt. He finished tied for third with Filipino Antonio Lascuna on 13-under-par.
“I didn’t think my win would come so soon as there are so many good players on the Asian Tour,” aid the 24-year-old Granberg. “I thought I had a chance for a top 10 or top 5 but now, I’m the winner!”
“I thought I needed to birdie 18 for a playoff. I don’t know what happened to Adam,” he added.
Malaysia’s Sukree Othman meanwhile surged up the leaderboard with a closing 65 to claim joint fifth place on 12-under-par 276 with Aussie Marcus Both and Bangladeshi Siddikur.
